The CHASE Climate Justice Network emerged in 2019 as an interdisciplinary arts and humanities research network creating spaces to explore and advocate for centring the issue of climate justice within academic research.
We understand Climate Justice as cutting across disciplines and methodologies. It intersects with multiple forms of activism including but not limited to feminism, anti-racist struggle, indigenous rights and the fight towards socio-economic equality at all levels.
With a commitment to fostering collaboration, community and grounded responses, our network seeks to bridge the gap between theory and practice, while prioritising connection, mutual support and practices of care in response to the climate crisis. We strive to co-create universities and research practices that can lead the way in responding to the urgent challenges of our time.
Our objectives are as follows:
Foster community and collaboration:
- Provide spaces and initiatives that counter isolation and foster connections amongst members
- Promote mutual support and accountability amongst network members in a sustainable manner
- Explore alternative approaches to care and support, addressing gaps in institutional provision
Empower grassroots and practical responses:
- Advocate for student and community-led activities and initiatives that respond to climate justice issues
- Explore and advocate for diverse ways of knowing, as well as alternative languages and practices to support the expression and actualisation of these knowledges.
Bridge theory and practical action:
- Support the development of research applied to grounded context, bridging university and community spaces
- Promote and support interdisciplinary collaborations and partnerships with communities affected by climate breakdown
