Kusintha kwa nyengo, kusintha kwa ifeyo is a short research project undertaken by an all female group of community researchers in Malawi, Khamalathu Arts. The group of 10 women travelled from the city of Blantyre to two villages in Chikwawa which are regularly impacted by flooding. They spent time with five women in the village who told them their stories and experiences whilst welcoming them into their homes and lives. The group learnt about both the horrifying impact of severe flooding on livelihoods, health, safety and agriculture but also about the complexity of related issues such as deforestation, poverty and lack of climate resilience. The resulting stories are detailed in a short report. This report is being circulated in Malawi and to the women interviewed in the village. Khamalathu Arts plans to return to the village to conduct workshops with the women interviewed and others, to share their findings and to build solidarity and support structures.
